SETTING
Bangkok’s only Cajun/Creole restaurant brings New Orleans to diners via simple wooden tables and chairs with woven-rattan back, framed
prints of street scenes, and a tank full of crawfish by one wall.
FOOD
Bourbon Street has added Mexican dishes to the famous offerings of Louisiana, and the spices and flavours of these cuisines go well
together in a meal. The Mexican items are good for starters and portions are big enough to share. Enchilada plate features tacos with red beans and rice and could be a full meal in itself. Blackened
redfish is a dish synonymous with New Orleans, but the restaurant also offers the shrimp and chicken versions. Jambalaya with andouille
sausage or crawfish is another signature dish, the tomato sauce and Cajun spices lending the dish a unique taste. Crawfish is also available boiled, stewed with vegetables or in a thick, delicious
bisque. American staples such as barbequed pork ribs, hamburgers and pork chops make up a section of the menu, and some incorporate Cajun seasonings as well. Pecan pie or banana foster –
fresh banana flambeed and served with ice cream — makes a nice finish.
WINES
The wine list leans toward the new world but there are some French bottles as well. Price ranges from under 1,000 to 8,990 baht for a bottle of Cuvee Dom Perigon 1995.
SERVICE
Friendly and polite, the staff delivers prompt service, good recommendations and adds to the restaurant’s charms.
PRICE
Two can eat well for under 1,500 baht.
