SETTING
Coffee Beans by Dao is a relaxed and busy addition to the Ruamrudee dining scene. Located close to the Ploenchit skytrain station, the restaurant was opened late in 2005, eight years after its popular first branch in Soi Ekamai. On three floors of a complex of restaurants, the atmosphere is centred around family dining.
FOOD
With a mix of more than 250 Thai and western-style dishes to choose from this is a place to come with friends or family. Best to pick a
selection of dishes and share but be prepared for some very spicy traditional Thai offerings. Owner Susri Pangputhipong is rightly proud of her western dishes and one way to attack the menu might be to start with nachos, vol-au-vents and spring rolls and then move on to a selection of the many Thai dishes. Roti with beef curry, beef/ox tongue stew and roasted baby chicken are just some of the favourite main courses. The salads are also worth consideration and are wonderfully fresh and the house salad is crammed with a variety of
meats and leaves. Cakes and pastries are temptingly on display at the counter and should be accompanied by coffee and tea to finish.
WINES
There is one red and one white house wine on offer by the glass and even these may not be available every day.
SERVICE
Staff is very enthusiastic but in many cases young and inexperienced. The packed, mainly young, Thai clientele seems not to care and
there is a general aura of fun and camaraderie.
PRICE
A couple can easily dine for under 1,800 baht. Great value for the quality of food on offer.
