One of the most authentic, enjoyable restaurants in the bustling Night Bazaar area of town. Its personal and intimate setting approximates that of a real Italian trattoria.
FOOD
Among Chiang Mai’s many Italian restaurants Giorgio has earned the most fiercely loyal patrons. There may be many reasons for this, but certainly the most obvious is its authenticity. Venetian owner Giorgio di Facci has taken a very hands-on approach and is often seen preparing and presenting his fare proudly to delighted diners. Signature Venetian dishes such as minestrone Veneto and spaghettini Venezia are sprinkled throughout the menu. Giorgio’s use of the finest ingredients is evident in every dish – from simple spinaci al burro (spinach lightly fried in butter and garlic) to uncommon pasta dishes such as penne Chef Chai (with peas, parmesan, garlic cheese and tomato sauce), maccheroncini all’ anitra (with duck, cream and parmesan cheese) and fettucine al profumo d’arancio (with leek, asparagus and a subtle hint of orange juice). The pizzas are considered by many to be the best in town, all with perfectly light crusts and subtly sweet tomato sauce. There is a wide range of meat dishes on offer and beef fillet steak deserves special mention.
WINES
There is a reasonable assortment of mostly Italian wines, with plans to expand the list. Most bottles are between 800 and 2,000 baht.
SERVICE
Although Giorgio is always packed, the staff does a fine job in attending to everyone.
PRICE
Two can dine well for under 1,000 baht.
