SETTING
Hazara is a part of the Face restaurant group, situated in an exquisite complex of oldstyle Thai teak houses. On the upper level, the restaurant’s decor is impressive. A large Balinesestyle garuda greets you at the top of the stairs and the interior is filled with tasteful Indian crafts.
FOOD
Though Hazara is named after a tribe and a region in Afghanistan, the cuisine served here is associated with northern India. Appetisers include paneer pakora, cottage cheese fritters shallow fried, and house speciality punjabi somosas. Hazara’s most famous dish is marinated leg of baby lamb baked in the tandoor, or raan e Hazara,
and is highly recommended. Another favourite dish from the Punjabi region of India is tawa jheenga, or king prawns cooked with a mixture of ginger, onion and coriander; this is superb with saffron pilau rice. Bharihui naan ki tokhri is an assortment of breads and an ideal side dish to accompany the meal. There is also a large selection of vegetarian dishes. Dhal Hazara, creamy black lentils simmered slowly over the tandoor for eight hours, is a house speciality, and it is indeed very special. Bengan matter, eggplant and green peas in a curry sauce, is also extremely good. There are a few classic Indian desserts on offer, as well as a selection of superb western-style
desserts from Visage, part of the Face group.
