FOOD
The menu boasts dishes mainly from Campania, in south west Italy. Chef Giovanni Ferrara is almost sure to recommend mixed carpaccio of wafer-thin raw beef and salmon, and smoked duck as you delight in his attention to detail in everything, right down to the homemade
butter. Dip into the extensive selection of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars in decanters on a dresser by the door to accompany
the warm, fresh bread. Between courses, the chef will serve a sorbet to refresh the palate, with a new flavour every day. The hardest choice here is which pasta and which sauce to select. The chef will guide you through the process, sometimes by a convivial question-and-answer session, or simply by asking the diner to name any combination of ingredients. His repertoire is vast and he can conjure anything one may desire. Enjoy ravioli stuffed with soft lamb in a tomato sauce, or warm duck salad. But take your time though as a meal at La Gaetana – whether a romantic tryst or a business necessity – is not to be rushed.
