SETTING
Watermark’s quayside location is the perfect setting for an elegant and memorable dining experience. The open-sided restaurant’s minimalist interior has recently been softened with the addition of comfy sofas, and a photo exhibition adds a dash of colour to the walls.
FOOD
Zimbabwean chef Scott Flaxman is a recent addition to the professional and competent team, arriving here after a stint at the Admiral Crichton in London, known for its royal connections. The menu is modernity itself, with a selection of both contemporary Thai and western dishes. Appetisers include sensational seared ahi tuna on a bed of avocado with spicy wasabi lime vinaigrette. Goong sarong from the Thai menu is an excellent choice; try this with one of the salads. Grilled beef tenderloin and arugula with shaved parmesan is a wonderful combination. Tuna wrapped in basil and parma ham in an
orange and cherry tomato reduction is enjoyable, and beef tenderloin is prepared to perfection. The cheeseboard or a dessert is a good way to end an enjoyable meal.
WINES
Watermark has extended its selection to include more classic wines to complement the already established new world choices. Choosing and ordering is made easier by a comprehensive classification process at this innovative place.
SERVICE
The staff is a rare combination of welltrained and friendly young people that every restaurant should have in order to sparkle.
PRICE
A fine dinner for two, excluding alcohol, costs about 1,800 baht.
